(.15 CEUs)
Speaker:  Cindy Vega
If you've stayed away from providing realtime because you are under the impression that writing realtime is only for the exceptional writer, this seminar is for you!  You will hear from long-time realtime writers - pioneers from the early days of realtime reporting - that that thought process is outdated. Realtime reporting is not just for contest winners! This seminar will teach you how to start the process of offering realtime, different ways of outputting realtime, local and streaming, and tips & tricks while on the job to make your writing superb!  This seminar is a seminar for beginners as well as all levels of realtime writers.  The ability to provide realtime is the platinum star on top of the gold standard that sets CSRs above digital recording.

4:15 to 5:45 pm / Defending Your Certified Copy Rates to Attorneys-Even in Court
(.15 CEUs)
Speakers:  Linda Nelson, Vicki Saber, Ed Howard, Esq.
The last few years have brought an increasing number of challenges to rates charged for certified copies to non-taking attorneys by agencies in California.  Most of the challenges seem to cite the Serrano decision and the "fair rate" per page set by the judge in that case.  Of course, those were 2011 dollars. Come listen to the stories of two firm owners who went through more than most and how they came out clean on the other side.  We will also share Ed Howard's excellent letter style template to aid you in fighting any challenges that may come your way.

CalDRA's Cocktail Party  • 6:30 – 9:00 PM
Come and enjoy good friends, great music, and delicious hors d'oeuvres!  Grab a drink with a long-time colleague, make a new friend or two, and network for that next lucrative job while enjoying in-person, face-to-face conversation.  Entertainment provided by the musical duo of Dan Franklin and Stephanie Renee Wall.  "Franklin Wall" blends 90's country music sensibilities with a modern West Coast vibe.

(0.2 CEUs)
Speaker:  Jessica Meyers, Esq. (co-counsel for Johnny Depp)

Ms. Myers will discuss her involvement in one of the biggest trials in the country in recent years - Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard.  She will speak about how most of the depositions they took for the case (and there were a lot) were taken remotely and ultimately used as trial testimony, as well as discuss the logistics, benefits, and challenges associated with that process and how their court reporting services supported them in their efforts.  In particular, she will address the following: (a) the adjustment to taking depositions remotely; (b) how the option to take depositions impacted the number of depositions taken in this case (and the individuals they were able to depose); (c) the process of designating deposition testimony to be used at trial; and (d) how the court reporting services assisted the Depp legal team in preparing the video deposition testimony that was ultimately played at trial.
